Prosecuted for hate speech

2013. After reading an article on sexual Violence in Tahrir Square in Cairo, Michael Hess, vice president of SD in Karlskrona Municipality, wrote something which later would get him convicted for hate speech:

“When are you journalists going to realise that it is deeply ingrained in Islamic culture to rape and mistreat women who do not abide by the teachings of Islam. There is a large correlation between rape in Sweden and the number of immigrants from the Greater Middle East.”

Despite the conviction, the party centrally and locally publicly agreed with the statement. They argued that it was clumsily worded, but true. The comment was published in Aftonbladet and on Michael Hess’s own Facebook page on the July 9th, 2013. Hess was later acquitted by the higher court.
